I'm currently in my second year of a mathematics education PhD at Oregon State University. I grew up in suburban Takoma Park, Maryland, I lived in Kodaikanal, India for a couple of years, and I have lived permanently in Berea, Kentucky since then. I got my undergraduate degree at Kalamazoo College, where I studied math, philosophy, and German.

My work as a graduate student involves both research and teaching components. As a researcher, I've begun working with Dr. Mary Beisiegel in the field of mathematics education. Broadly, math education research is focused on how math teachers should teach and how students learn math. Right now, my plan is to complete a Master's thesis in which I study the benefits and downsides to homework in college calculus classes; this will involve both theoretical and empirical components. I then plan on using the results of the Master's thesis for my PhD dissertation, in which I will work with faculty and staff to change how an undergraduate institution structures its calculus courses.

As a teacher, I work as a Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA). Each term, I work with a full-time instructor at the university on a course they are teaching. Generally, this involves grading assignments and holding problem-solving reciation sessions. I also serve as a tutor in the University's Mathematics and Statistics Learning Center (MSLC), which is a drop-in tutoring center which helps all mathematics and statistics courses held at the University.
